Economy

The San Diego County economy is a blend of military, healthcare and innovation sectors. It has a high level of resiliency in recessions, according to Ray Major, chief economist at the San Diego Association of Governments.

A significant portion of the work force is derived from in-migration, creating a diverse population. The city of San Diego works closely with the San Diego Workforce Partnership, a nonprofit community corporation that supports workforce development and employers.

Former Stanford QB retires

Andrew Luck, former Stanford quarterback is said to be retiring from NFL. He plans to return to school to earn a Masters’ degree in education. Luck and his wife Jennifer have two children. The news broke in the middle of the NFL’s preseason. Luck heard the crowd boo him as he was leaving the field. He confirmed these reports and thanked his fans in an Indianapolis Star full page ad.

Luck was the Indianapolis Colts’ first overall pick in 2012 NFL Draft. He was a part of seven games in 2015. After that, he missed the majority of last season due to injuries. He was named to All-Pac-12’s third team. Luck threw more than 23600 yards in his NFL career. He was also named a fourth-time Pro Bowl selection.

Nunes suffered a injury to his right major muscle, the pectoralis major muscle, in the offseason. This forced him to retire from football. After sustaining the injury, Nunes had to have surgery to fix it with screws. Nunes’ injury isn’t known when, but it’s likely that he suffered it during a weight lifting workout.

Andrew Luck will continue to spend time with his loved ones after his retirement. Luck was an All-American quarterback at Stanford. In 2012, he was selected as the first overall pick in NFL draft. He was a Colts quarterback for six seasons and threw for over 23,000 yards and 171 touchdowns. He led the NFL in touchdown passes with 40 in 2014. Many Stanford fans, however, will feel Luck’s retirement and hope to see him again in the NFL.
